I took my 10 year old daughter to the ER last night because I noticed that her toe has become very infected from an ingrown toenail. My thought was that since there was a large ball of pus on her toe was that they could at least properly clean it out and give her antibiotics until we could get to the pediatrician the following day to have a referral made to a podiatrist. Could it have waited until today and been taken to her doctor? PROBABLY. I was more concerned that staph may set in and wanted to ensure it was treated as quickly as possible just in case. What I did not expect was to be made to feel as I did something wrong by taking my daughter to be checked out instead of letting it get worse and letting it fester more. Better safe than sorry, right? Apparently not, according to the RN? Doctor? Nurse? Who knows, because I received no introduction from him. What I DID receive was a rude remark from him out of the blue stating "Let me see your toe. Have she seen her pediatrician? This probably could have waited until tomorrow, but let me see it." NO, she didn't see her pediatrician because I noticed it on Sunday WHILE THEY WERE CLOSED. And then on Monday, I checked it to redress it before bed after she had her shower and noticed it was worse than the day before, so I made a decision to get it looked at ASAP rather than waiting again. I have insurance and I was paying for these services, but even if not, no parent should be made to feel ashamed for trying to take care of their children, I don't care how busy it had been that day, or how rough your day has been. I work in customer service getting screamed at all day by people for poor service or products, and I don't shame my customers for their concerns. Instead, I work to alleviate them and resolve their issues. This person never introduced himself, so the only thing I can say is that he has red hair and a red beard. The triage nurse; however, was wonderful!!! She deserves 5 stars.

Had an unexpected visit to Dekalb Regional in Fort Payne Alabama was pleasantly surprised by the staff. Our nurse Riley on the third floor was kind, friendly, anxious to support the needs at hand. Shortly after her superior came in as well to check in and the good feeling a person gets when they know the staff has the patients needs as top priority really is comforting. I am very grateful for the staff and all the hard work that took place during our visit. Thank you

I recently had a surgery that included an overnight stay at Dekalb Regional Medical Center. I honestly can't say enough good things about the care I received while I was there. The doctors and nurses were super responsive if i needed anything, everyone was friendly with a pleasant bedside manner that really gave me & my husband peace of mind to allow him to be able to go home for the night without and rest without worrying about the level of care i would receive. Everyone that was involved from arrival to departure took the time to come by and introduce themselves, let me know what their role would be and answer my questions. Thank you for the excellent care and providing reassurance and comfort during a stressful process.
