I was at The Brennity today and participated in a really fun game with the residents. It was like playing the slot machine in a casino. It was very creative with flashing lights and real fruit. The residents loved it. Everyone received some candy as a prize.

I’ve been waiting to write this review. Now, I notice no reviews have been written in over 1 year, 5 and 11 years and each received a blanket response 9 months ago, even to a complaint. Things have changed at The Brennity Memory Care facility. We moved my Dad out of The Brennity a couple months ago. He’s 93 with Dementia and an amputee so he is in a wheelchair. When we brought him to The Brennity, it was a Godsend. We had no idea what we were dealing with or how to deal with it. Our mother was dying and lots of his behavior got put on the back burner but came to head one day and we knew we were in trouble. Dad’s assigned nurse was wonderful, understanding and my Dad really took to her. Dad’s condition has progressed. We learned so much how Dementia works etc by him being there. He was social and had a routine which he really prefers. We had a caregiver that went by daily to check on him, take him out to lunch and ride him around in the car. He and my mom had been living with my sisters and I. Since then, mom passed and we all work so at home care was a challenge. The caregiver started giving us concerning reports. The last 6 months of being there we noticed decline in the care. Mainly night shift care was declining. He was being left in his wheelchair all day and night. He would wheel around until he fell asleep, when he woke up he would continue to wheel around. His assigned nurse couldn’t be with him 24/7. We visited on the weekends, he always had a bruise, cut etc. No one ever knew why or how it was happening. At first it was him trying use the toilet, on his own, and he would fall. He needed assistance to go to the restroom. Of course he did, that’s why he was there. His mind wouldn’t tell him he needed to go. He found out usually too late and many times he and other residents were left to sit in their own mess. Dementia patients loose a lot, the one thing that can be helped is dignity. We reported what we found, what we were told. Changes were promised. Within 2 days the same problem occurred. Our caregiver found him in women’s clothing because all his clothing had been lost? He regularly smelled like poop and it was in his wheelchair constantly. We constantly replaced clothes, shoes (he only needed one) and towels. The care was lacking. I hesitate to say that as a blanket suggestion of all the staff. My family only experienced kindness from the staff. I just can’t guarantee that was what my father was experiencing when no one was around to see. Luckily he is not violent and is very sweet, now. His new place, he is sleeping 8-10hrs a night, in his bed, he’s content and happy, clean shaven daily, his skin is better by being rubbed down daily. He is still social. He is always fresh and clean. He’s not had once “accident” since being at his new place. The difference is care. Taking time to care and ask to take him to the restroom and help him, he has one leg for God sake. Care to take time to help him into his bed at night, and help him get out of bed in the mornings, care to get him into a recliner to watch tv, care to make sure he looks and feels good. I am very thankful to the staff that did help my dad. He was well liked and didn’t cause problems. I question what was going on when no one was looking and an answer of “he won’t remember anyway” is not how anyone wants to be treated when no one is looking.

My grandfather has advanced stage Parkinson’s and has moved there. He and I both love it. He has his own apartment. The place is beautiful and absolutely spotless. The staff is amazing and very kind to the residents. It’s so beautiful I wouldn’t mind living there myself!

Mother has been a resident for almost 9 months now. She really enjoys the different activities and the staff. Her only complaint is that there are so many old people. (She's 89) we are happy with the treatment she has received. Have recommended this residence to others.

My mom moved into the Memory care facility about 7 months ago. I will say that I could not havr picked a better place. The staff kept me up to date on how she was doing and what she needed. I live in Georgia and the staff became her family and treated her as family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤

The Brennity started out as a very nice place for Mom. In the past year, the quality of care had deteriorated significantly. There are never enough workers. Frequently there is only one person on the hall at night for up to 30 residents. Residents have been left alone while showering which should never happen. Additionally the food is overspiced for a senior facility.

I am disappointed with Home Care Associates as well as The Brennity in Daphne, Alabama. I have been working closely with the Brennity staff as well as HCA staff for over a year now and today was the absolute last straw. I have seen unprofessional, but both companies have taken this beyond comprehension. Andrew Bellard is the owner of HCA and they subcontract out to the Brennity, placing CNAs on available shifts that the Brennity cannot fill. I am unsure if Andrew hired a woman named Ashley, but she should have never been hired. She was hired only because Tiffany Vaughn worked in the office at one point and was demoted back to CNA. They trusted Tiffany’s word and Ashley brought her six year old daughter to work with her. I arrived at my shift and the daughter was asleep in a residents bed. These residents have Dementia, Alzheimer's, they are fall risk, and frail. This is no place for a six year old to be asleep, especially with a man. The child was female and her mother, Ashley allowed this to happen. Demonica, LPN/ staffing coordinator/ head nurse was made aware of this issue and brushed it off like it was no big deal. Erin, LCSW/ LMSW/ The one in charge of both Assisted living and Memory Care (I am unsure of her title and don’t want to insult her the way she does everyone else) is always made aware of the issues and she does nothing. Her ex husband’s grandmother was dying and I quote said, “Let her die we aren’t missing our vacation.” I am appalled at the lack of empathy, respect, and compassion both companies have been exhibiting lately. Please take this review to heart and do better. Be better. Be better humans. Brennity Memory Care and Home Care Associates need to pay closer attention to their staff.

My mother has been there for about 9 months now, and seems very happy there. She has gained weight because the food is very good, she has made numerous friends and she really enjoys all the activities that they provide.
